Ravi Raja Pinnisetty, Skanda Arts, and Chiru joined hands to make an entertaining film, which though was a musical hit, did average business in 1990. This film is the desi version of an Eddie Murphy film. Raja Vikramarka (Chiranjeevi) is the prince of Skanda Dweepam, a small kingdom. He is unable to live his own life, eat his favorite foods, or brush his own teeth. His father (Satyanarayana) arranges his marriage with another kingdom’s princess. She turns out to be nothing more than a synchophant, one without a brain or spine of her own. He leaves the kingdom with his trusted friend, Jockie (Bramhanandam), in order to live his own life. In the modern big city, he finds a friend and works as a mechanic, during which time he saves a girl (Amala) from two attempts at her life. Her uncle (Rao Gopal Rao) hires him as her bodyguard. Rao later reveals to him that he was in fact the assassin trying to kill her for her money. In order to thwart his plot, Raja agrees to handle the murder attempts, while at the same time trying to save her. After being kicked out of the house, her uncle, along with the other villains (Gullapudi Maruthi Rao and Kota) join forces to kill Raja and his parents. Raja saves the day and rules as king of his land. Comedy has always been one of Chiru’s fortes. It has always come to him easily and this time is no exception. Mostly a comedy-filled role, he excelled in it. While trying to plot devlish schemes to end a life at the same trying to save that very life, Chiru portrayed yet another multi-layered, comedic role with elan. This is a very different role from what he had done before and he excelled. Amala paired up well with him and danced very well too. The villainous actors were their usual best at being evil. Radhika, who also starred in the film as a theif who gives up her lifestyle because she loves Raja, was entertaining. Music by Raj-Koti was terrific, especially the songs, “Ellelo,” Gagana Kirana, and “Erraroi.” Choreography was superb, in particular the snake dance was mind-blowing. Ravi Raja did a good job in directing the film. The costumes and sets add richness to the film. It is an entertaining, fun film.
